David Birch Counselling and Psychotherapy in Bloomsbury, Central London

My aim as psychotherapist is to create a supportive and caring environment in which you can explore a wide range of personal issues, for example:

- anxiety and depression

- loss and bereavement

- family dynamics

- personal relationships

- mental health issues

I work from a position of support and respect, adapting my approach to suit your needs and the issues that you bring. Sometimes this involves simply listening, providing the time and space to talk things through. When it’s relevant, I ‘hold up the mirror’, playing back, in a non-judgmental way, the patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour that seem important. The purpose is to encourage and support you in reframing how you understand and respond to issues, drawing on all of your strengths and personal resources as you do so.

Sometimes it's useful to look to the past, but much of the time it helps to focus on the here and now, developing some practical skills and strategies to move things forward. At different stages, the emphasis will change depending on your needs. This makes psychotherapy a dynamic experience that helps you become more of who you really are.
